Why Grief Support NZ was created
Grief can feel very lonely. Even when people around you care deeply, it can be hard to find the words, or to feel like anyone truly understands what you are carrying. Many people do not know where to start, who to contact, or what support is available in New Zealand.
Grief affects everyone differently. Some people want to talk. Others want to read quietly, or simply know that others have felt the same way. Some people are looking for practical information — what to do, who to call, what to expect. Others just need a safe place to land for a few minutes.
Grief Support NZ was created to bring two things together: a Facebook group where people across New Zealand can connect, share, listen, and feel less alone — and a website where helpful information, support options, regional services, guides, and practical details can all be found in one place.
The website is not a counselling service, and it is not a crisis line. It is a starting point. A place to find your footing, gather some useful information, and take the next small step — whatever that looks like for you.
If you are grieving, supporting someone who is grieving, or simply looking for information, you are welcome here.
Join the Facebook support group
The Grief Support NZ Facebook group is a free, open community for people across New Zealand. It is a place to connect with others, share resources, read stories, and feel a little less alone in what you are going through.
The group is there for people who are:
- Experiencing grief and looking for connection or support
- Supporting someone through grief and wanting to learn more
- Looking for a safe place to read, listen, or share
- Searching for helpful resources and support options
You do not need to share your own story. You are welcome to simply read, listen, and take what is helpful.
Helpful grief resources in one place
The Grief Support NZ website is being built as a resource hub for people across Aotearoa. It brings together links, guides, and information across a range of topics, so that when you need something, you do not have to start from scratch.

- Counselling and bereavement support services
- Hospice and palliative care resources
- Practical steps after a death in New Zealand
- Grief guides and helpful reading
